THE flying Jewel Display Case for your radial engine!

The Udet U 12 Flamingo was an aerobatic sports plane and trainer aircraft developed in Germany in the mid 1920s. It was a conventional,single-bay biplane of wooden construction with the wings braced by large I-struts. The pilot and instructor or passenger sat in tandem, open cockpits.

The U 12 proved extremely popular and sold well, due in no small part to Ernst Udet's spectacular aerobatics routines while flying the aircraft. One particularly acclaimed part of his act included swooping down towards the airfield and picking up a handkerchief with the tip of one wing. In the fall  of 1931, Udet literally extended his horizons by accepting his first invitation to show his aerobatic "act"in America. With his mechanic, Erich Baier, on August 18, 1931, Udet and his Flamingo were aboard the transatlantic Norddeutscher Lloyd’s Europa bound for New York and, in September, the exciting National Air Races at Cleveland, Ohio. At Cleveland, his "crazy-flying"performances were warmly appreciated.

The popularity of this aircraft was insufficient to rescue Udet Flugzeugbau from its dire financial position, but when the company's assets were taken over by the state of Bavaria to form BFW, production of the U 12 soon resumed in earnest. BFW-built U 12s were exported to Austria, Hungary and Latvia, and later built under licence in these countries as well.

This is a CAD designed and CNC cut kit.

Everything comes together via the tab-lock system, making this build progress quicker and more rewarding than the traditional style of design and construction. The kit contains precision-cut parts from selected plywood, poplar and birch which fit together perfectly and allow for a short building time. The hardware packs include everything you will need to complete the model, with the exception of covering material and glue. For transport the tail section can be removed.

The whole kit can be completed without any soldering involved. Please note that the nature of this plane asks for an experienced builder. The process of thin-plywood sheeting is something you should be familiar with before you consider this kit. This model is a true scale rendition of the original plane, based on the original plans.

This complete kit includes:Complete set of wood parts, landing gear, wheels, fuel tank, aileron, elevator and rudder control linkage, prefabricated and matched brace wires, all CNC milled fittings, cut to size and pre-drilled sheet metal, composite cowl, prefabricated cabane- and wingstruts, pre-cut servo-trays, construction drawings and full-size plans, instrument panel,  building instructions and lots of small hardware parts.

You just need adhesive and heat shrink film to get started. All the required and expensive paper-thin plywood is already included.

Custom made fabric wingbags of the finest quality are available. Even custom schemes can be done.
