Permatex White Lithium Grease

Permatex White Lithium Grease is a versatile lubricant designed for metal-to-metal and metal-to-plastic contact surfaces. It reduces friction and wear while providing protection against rust, moisture, and elevated temperatures.

We primarily use it for lubricating cam followers and pushrod contact points on engines with exposed valve trains—Moki engines are a good example.

Why Lubricate the Pushrod Contact Points?

Take a look at your engine's pushrod. There are several small, highly loaded contact points that benefit from proper lubrication.

At the bottom of the pushrod, the pushrod rides in the cam follower. This metal-to-metal contact point should be kept lightly lubricated to minimize friction and wear.

The cam follower and its pivot pin also benefit from lubrication, allowing the follower to move freely and reducing unnecessary friction within the valve train.

At the top of the pushrod, the pushrod rides in a metal cup that is typically part of the valve-clearance adjustment screw or assembly. This is another metal-to-metal contact point that should receive a small amount of lubrication.

Maintaining a light film of grease at these critical points helps the exposed valve train operate smoothly and with minimal friction and wear.

A small amount is all that is required—the goal is to lubricate the contact surfaces, not pack the valve train with grease.
