Intake Tubes
A properly designed intake tube can increase performance, improve throttle response, and reduce fuel consumption within the engine's primary operating RPM range.
We use intake tubes on virtually all of our gasoline engines, particularly four-strokes—including radials, opposed twins, inline engines, and singles.
In addition to improving airflow into the carburetor, the intake tube helps provide the carburetor with a more stable and consistent air supply. This can reduce the tendency of an engine to lean out in flight as a result of rapidly changing airflow, pressure, and turbulence inside the cowling.
The result is typically better acceleration, more consistent mixture control, and improved performance throughout the usable RPM range.

Depending on the carburetor configuration, the choke flap may contact the inside of the intake tube and prevent it from opening fully. If this occurs, there are two simple solutions: slightly bevel or angle the intake-tube opening to provide sufficient clearance for the choke flap, or install a small spacer between the carburetor and intake tube to provide the necessary clearance.
